GVSU’s The Black Boys & Men National Symposium
June 10–12, 2026
Thredz.org Men of Y3 present:
Boys II Men: Mentoring & Educating Black Boys When You Are Not the Model—But the Work Still Needs to Be Done Panel
(Youth & Emerging Leaders Edition)
This year we’re shifting the format to center youth and emerging leaders. Instead of adult executives, the panel will feature high school Y3 youth leaders alongside Black college students, so participants can hear directly from young men currently navigating these systems.
The conversation will focus on what authentic mentorship actually looks like, what works, and what unintentionally causes harm, especially when educators and mentors do not share the lived experience of Black boys.
Marria will be moderating the discussion, helping explore the often-overlooked role that Black women, White women, and White men play in shaping the environments Black boys grow up in, and why intentionality, cultural humility, and accountability are essential for real impact.
The goal is a more honest, youth-centered conversation about trust, expectations, and mentorship that actually supports Black boys.
